Businesses based in Surrey now have access to an innovative scheme designed to help them “go greener,” improving sustainability and cutting carbon emissions.

Designed for small- to medium-sized businesses in Surrey, the scheme offers free advice and guidance. But there’s also money on the table – with loans available to help businesses decarbonise, reduce energy costs and make more sustainable choices.

What Can You Get

The business decarbonisation scheme includes:

  • A free Business Decarbonisation Assessment
  • A Business Decarbonisation Loan
  • A free Business Decarbonisation course and a carbon calculator tool, free on a one year licence

The loans themselves range from £5,000 to £15,000, up to 50% of your decarbonisation project’s costs.

  • Up to 50% of your decarbonisation project’s costs
  • Repayments over up to 3 years
  • No fees
  • Fixed interest rate 8% per year

The first step is to take a free business decarbonisation assessment, which you can book by filling out this form.

How Could You Use It?

Have you been thinking about how to make your business more “green”? There are so many options, from solar panels to updating office equipment or switching to electric vehicles.

Ideas include:

  • Reducing energy loss through insulation
  • Low carbon heating, including heat pumps
  • Lighting technology
  • Energy generation including solar panels
  • Upgrades to efficient equipment
  • Changes to IT hardware and services
  • Electric vehicles and charging points

Many of these options, though, require investment – which can be a barrier-to-entry for many smaller businesses.

This scheme, and the £5,000 – £15,000 loans, makes it easier to adapt your business and make more sustainable choices. And with many of the solutions you could implement, you might be able to save a significant amount in the long term.

Ultimately, sustainability makes good business sense, and this scheme makes it easier for businesses in Surrey to take advantage of the green opportunity.

More About The Scheme

The business decarbonisation scheme is run by Surrey County Council in partnership with six Surrey boroughs –  Woking, Guildford, Waverley, Reigate and Banstead, Spelthorne and Surrey Heath councils.

Launching the scheme, Marisa Heath – the council’s cabinet member for environment – said there has been strong interest in similar initiatives to date, and that “businesses want to be future ready and reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs”.

Guildford Borough Council’s lead councillor for environment and climate change George Potter, added “our small and medium-sized businesses play a huge role in our local area and this loan will make a big difference for so many of them.”
